The Athens Metro is the most efficient way to travel around the city of Athens. There are three main lines, plus a tram line.
- Blue line: it runs from Nikaia (no reason to go there) to the Airport.
- Green line: it’s the oldest line, running from Piraeus port to Kifisia suburb (north)
- Red line: it runs from Anthoupoli (no reason to go there) to Elliniko (southern suburb, close to the Athens Riviera)
Athens Metro Ticket Prices
- 1,20 euros for 90 minutes
- 2,30 euros for 2 trips within a day
- 4,10 euros single day ticket
- 8,20 euros 5-day ticket
Note that the Athens Metro does not have zones, so each ticket can be used throughout the network, with the exception of Athens International Airport. If you are travelling from/to the Airport with Athens Metro, you have the following options:
- 9 euros for one-way ticket
- 16 euros for two-way ticket
- 20 euros for three-day ticket that also incudes buses, tram and metro (this option includes a two-way ticket to the airport)
Most carriages in Athens Metro have airconditioning and travelling is safe. Always take care of your belongings, especially in busy stations like Monastiraki and Omonia where pickpockets operate.
Note that there are frequest checks for valid tickets in Athens Metro, so make sure you hold one to avoid getting fined.
